THE SET UP

 

P R I V A T E S     vs.      C L A S S E S   

Don’t know which kind of session to book?  Private sessions are always recommended
for first time clients that are new to Pilates.  Even if you are fit and active, Pilates is
different than the other workouts you have done in the past.  The Method is most effective
when the ground work is laid for you through private, one-on-one sessions that can
be specified and modified for you as an individual.  If Private sessions are not in your budget,
recruit a friend and make your workouts even more fun with a semi-private!  Still choosing
to go for a group class? Be sure to have the desk help direct you to a slower paced, fundamental class for your first try!

 

B O O K I N G    Y O U R    F I R S T    V I S I T 

When booking your first visit give the front desk as much information about your workout history and preferences as you can!  Our front desk is incredibly knowledgeable and trained to help you find the best fit of instructor for your first visit!  Definitely be sure to share injuries so that we can prep your instructor accordingly.

 

W H E N     T O     B O O K ?

Remember the earlier that you book the more likely you are to get your preference on time and instructor.  We recommend at least booking the day before to guarantee your workout.  However, if you find yourself with some free time and craving a workout, feel free to give us a call and we will try to set something up for you.  We can not guarantee day of sessions but we are happy to try!

T H E     E Q U I P M E N T

Yes, we often joke that Pilates equipment looks like a Medieval Torture Chamber BUT do not be intimidated.  Those springs and bars are there to help you and to aid in providing the long, lean muscles you are looking for.  Always, safety first though!  This is why we recommend private sessions but don’t let yourself be scared out of starting your practice.

 

T O     S W E A T    O R     N O T    T O     S W E A T 

Pilates is not an overly cardio workout, especially in the beginning of your practice.  The sweat and heat that Pilates stimulates comes from your deep muscles and is very different than superficial workout sweating that you will be accustomed to.  Do not fret if you don’t sweat!  When it comes to Pilates this does not mean that you did not work correctly.  You are still creating beautiful lean muscles and the sweat will come the more into your practice you venture.

 

U N D E R S T A N D I N G     P I L A T E S 

Pilates is a whole different beast than many of your usual workouts.  It may be different and will work different muscles than you have ever used before.  Confused after your first session?  Don’t give up! Pilates may take at least three tries before you start to understand what your aiming to accomplish and before you understand just how deep of work you are doing!

 

T H E    S O R E     F A C T O R

This is totally individualized to the client.  Yes, you may be sore because you are using muscles you have never used before.  However, not every novice is able to target those muscles on the first session, so it may take until the 2nd or 3rd session to learn how to engage those deep core muscles and subsequently “feel the burn”.

THE FIRST SESSION 

W H A T    T O    W E A R 

Come to your Pilates session dressed in whatever you are most comfortable in.  Slim fitting exercise pants or leggings and a slim fitting top are ideal.  Please no belt buckles, zippers, or jewelry that could damage the equipment.  Our only other specific request is that you wear socks!  Because of our shared equipment, socks are to be worn at all times unless asked to be removed by your instructor.  Don't worry, if you forget your socks we always have some to borrow! Besides your workout clothes and socks all you need is yourself and your willingness to learn and have fun!  

No need to bring your own mat.

 

A R R I V A L

As standard for all exercise facilities there will be paperwork to fill out before your first session with us.  Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your first session so that we may have you fill this out at your leisure and get you situated with our beautiful spaces.

 

S T O R I N G    Y O U R    T H I N G S

We do not have lockers at our studios.  Clients may keep their belongings in the reception area, in the dressing room, or small purses may be kept tucked behind your mat during class.  No need to worry, our receptionists are always at the desk keeping an eye on things and we have security cameras in all of our studios for your protection.
