Although she’s a professional opera singer who has sung at regional companies across the country; movement, fitness, and dance have always played an important part of Abla Hamza’s life. Even while earning her BA in Anthropology from UT Austin, she continued to fulfill her passion for dance and movement, and soon after graduating performed professionally as a dancer with the Dallas Opera and the Conte de Loyo Flamenco Dance Company. While pursuing a degree in music from the University of North Texas, she completed an AFAA certification and began teaching group fitness. Following her certification, Abla realized that she wanted to teach a method that was more mind/body oriented, so she received her first Pilates mat certification through Power Pilates (a Classical Pilates method) in Dallas where she taught until 2006. After moving to Philadelphia in 2007 to pursue her singing career, Abla completed her Power Pilates Intermediate Mat to expand her Pilates knowledge. As she taught Pilates more, she became excited to see the benefits to better posture, strength, and overall fitness, so she decided to pursue a Comprehensive Power Pilates Certification with Karen Pecarsky at Urbanfront Pilates in Philadelphia in 2011. Since receiving her certification, Abla deepened her knowledge of Pilates by completing a certificate with the Pilates Method Alliance in 2013. She enjoys the challenge of teaching a variety of clients ranging from athletes and performers to pregnant clients to clients recovering from injuries to clients looking to improve their overall fitness. Abla’s teaching style is encouraging and invigorating.
